University recognized as a top producer of Fulbrights

Washington University has been named as one of the top producers of Fulbright Scholarships in the nation. Thirteen WUSTL students and eight faculty members were selected as Fulbright grantees for the 2010-2011 academic year. WUSTL was one of only 11 institutions ranked by the Chronicle of Higher Education as a top producer of both Fulbright students and Fulbright faculty. FULL STORY

Students take silver in biology competition

Competing against 130 teams from across the world, a team of six undergraduates took silver in the foundational advance category of the International Genetically Engineered Machine competition this year.  The WUSTL team built a genetic sequence that, once inserted in a yeast cell, would signal whether the cell was growing with or without the sugar galactosen. Treatment-resistant depression clinic opens

The School of Medicine has opened a treatment-resistant depression clinic that targets those who haven’t responded to standard therapies. When at least two therapies have been unsuccessful, that patient is said to have treatment-resistant depression, according to clinic director Charles R. Conway, MD.  FULL STORY

Brazilian Film Festival opens Dec. 7

The Kemper Art Museum will present three experimental features exploring relationships between film and visual art as part of its Contemporary Brazilian Film Festival. Held in conjunction with the exhibition Rivane Neuenschwander: A Day Like Any Other, the festival will feature screenings of Aboio Dec. 7; Andarilho (Drifter) Dec. 8; and Terras (Lands) Dec. 9.
